MTV: Music Television has given the nod to a half-dozen series that will
debut in April, May and June.
The first up: Taildaters, a dating game that features friends and
family playing 'backseat daters' as they trail couples and provide instant
on-screen commentary from a studio on wheels. MTV has ordered 30 episodes, the
first of which bows April 6 at 8:30 p.m..
Virgin Chronicles is next, starting April 20 at 8:30 p.m. Created by
actor John Stamos, the series takes musical celebrities down memory lane about
their first car, first concert and 'first time.' The network has ordered six
episodes.
On May 21 at 10:30 p.m., MTV will trot out the half-hour Movie House,
in which viewers will get a sneak peek at never-before-seen trailers and
interviews with film stars.
June 10 will see a pair of series premieres. Ordering 30 episodes apiece, MTV
will allow one fan to become their favorite artist for a Video Music
Awards-style performance in Becoming Presents Wannabees, and the
network will tempt others to do strange things for cash in I Bet You
Will.
The last of the series to be green-lighted is Sorority Life, a new
reality show tracking a pledge class rushing the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi sorority
over a 10-week process. The first of 13 episodes debuts June 24 at 10:30
p.m.
'Starting this year with a combination of returning and groundbreaking hit
series has resulted in our most-watched first quarter ever,' MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com president of entertainment Brian Graden
said in a prepared statement.
'This new series of shows will join our already successful list of shows,
including The Osbournes, Cribs and Dismissed, offering our
audience an even greater array of programming choices,' he
added.
