MTV Tr3s this month unveiled three original productions that will have Latinos cooking, dancing and producing videos.
The three new shows -- all in the category of reality television -- are based on the network’s Cooltura Panel, a group of 100 young Latinos that provides feedback to the channel on programming strategy and content.
“This is a group of trendsetters that are into pop culture, and definitely ahead of their peers,” said Lily Neumeyer, VP of programming and production at MTV Tr3s. “We rely on them to better understand our target audience.”
In Rock Dinner, which premiered April 14, fans get to cook dinner for their favorite artists and then sit down to enjoy a private concert by them. The half-hour show consists of six episodes and features Latino music sensations Baby Bash, Awkid, AB Quintanilla, Pitbull, Kat de Luna and Enrique Iglesias. It features product integration by McDonald’s and Toyota.
Also coming in the spring is Dame un Break, a multiplatform project that launches May 12 and gives viewers to discover new talent and a chance to be discovered themselves.
From May and until mid-September young Latinos will get a chance to showcase their talent by entering a contest to win their very own music video produced by MTV Tr3s and get an album released. Bands will be asked to uplink their songs to a dedicated Dame un Break Web site (dameunbreak.mtvtr3s.com) and create their own artist profile and invite the world to vote for them.
“Dame un Break is a way for our audience to become part of the channel through their music,” said Neumeyer.
Dancing show, Bust a Ritmo, is set to premiere June 16 and will be hosted by Pee Wee, a former member of Kumbia Kings and Kumbia All Starz. The 6-episode weekly show focuses on dance as a motivator in helping young Latinos accomplish a goal.
In each episode, a person will have one day to learn a complicated dance routine and then use his or her newfound skill to surprise a significant other with a marriage proposal or telling an overprotective mom that they are moving out of the house.
All three shows were shot in Los Angeles.
