NaviSite, a division of Time Warner Cable, has introduced NaviCloud Director, an infrastructure-as-a-service platform powered by VMware’s vCloud Director line.
NaviSite, a unit that targets commercial customers, said the new IaaS offering will enable its clients to access VMware’s APIs and developer community and design cloud-based, “virtualized applications.” The result, the company said, will help customers mix and match billing models for fixed costs or pay as they go, and access and integrate with other NaviCloud and NaviSite managed services.
Customers with in-house vCloud Director experience will have access to the platform’s native user interface.
"NaviSite has always designed its solutions to meet customer needs, and introducing NaviCloud in 2010 was the first step to taking our customers to the cloud," said David Grimes, NaviSite’s chief technology officer, in a statement. "Today we recognize that customers are more savvy about cloud computing, so we're excited to offer them a solution that will give them a truly user-defined cloud environment, but with the support of NaviSite's Army of Experts should they need it."
According to the NaviSite Web site, NaviCloud Director will reach general availability in “early September.”
Time Warner Cable purchased Andover, Mass.-based NaviSite in 2011 for $230 million, as the MSO looked to add cloud-based services to its commercial portfolio. TWC pulled in $565 million in business services revenues in the second quarter, up from $464 million in the year-ago period.
