NBC to Broadcast Alma Awards on Sept. 16
After being abruptly cancelled in 2010, a revamped edition
of The ALMA Awards is returning to English-language television in 2011. But
instead of returning to their original home in ABC, the awards show will now be
broadcast exclusively on NBC.
The announcement was made earlier this month by Paul
Telegdy, executive vice president, alternative programming, NBCUniversal Media
Studios, and Janet Murguia, president and CEO of the National Council of La
Raza (NCLR), the organization which created the ceremony, then known as the
Bravo Awards, back in 1995.
Co-hosted by Eva Longoria and George Lopez, the ALMA Awards
will air as a one-hour primetime special on Sep. 16, and will be heavily
advertised and promoted across all NBC properties, including mun2 and
Telemundo. Telemundo News will feature highlights from the event and
Telemundo.com will be the official ALMA Awards Web site, featuring content from
rehearsals to the red carpet.
Mun2 will rebroadcast the show at a later date and will also
produce a two-hour special as part of its weekly music variety show, 18 & Over.
NBCUniversal and its majority owner, Comcast, which has had
a national partnership with NCLR since 2006, will contribute to the production costs
of the awards show.
