NCTA’s Powell to Keynote SCTE Cable-Tec Expo
National Cable & Telecommunications Association President and CEO Michael Powell will headline the opening general session of the Society of Cable Technology Engineers Cable-Tec Expo in Atlanta.
Powell's keynote, set for Tuesday, Oct. 22, will take the form of a sit down discussion on policy and technology issues with Cox Communications executive vice president and chief technology officer Kevin Hart.
The Society noted that the last time an NCTA president and CEO address Expo was a “town hall” type event in 2007 with Powell’s predecessor, Kyle McSlarrow.
Powell, who served as Chairman of the FCC from 2001 to 2005, also served as a guest speaker at the SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program at Dartmouth College.
“Michael Powell has been a tremendous champion of initiatives that have served as the foundation for today’s bundles of video, voice and data,” Hart said, in a statement. “We’re looking forward to hearing his assessment of the opportunities and challenges that exist today, as well as his views on how technology can spearhead future growth for the industry.”
The show’s opening session on October 22 will also feature a panel centered on network operations moderated by Comcast Cable chief network officer and executive vice president John Schanz. He’ll be joined by Yvette Kanouff, executive vice president, corporate engineering and technology, Cablevision Systems; Guy McCormick, vice president, engineering, Cox Communications; Matthew Stanek, senior vice president of core, regional, metro and network operations, Time Warner Cable; and Marwan Fawaz, partner with Sarepta Advisors and the former head of Motorola Home.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is set to run Oct. 21-24 at the Georgia World Congress Center.
