NDS Group plc became the third company, following Scientific-Atlanta Inc. and
Motorola Inc., to gain Cable Television Laboratories Inc. certification for
CableCARD technology.
CableLabs gave the OK to NDS' conditional-access card, marketed as the "NDS
VideoGuard CableCARD."
The CableCARD will allows consumer-electronics manufacturers to make and
retail stores to sell interoperable devices such as set-top boxes and integrated
television sets.
NDS' conditional-access systems are deployed in more than 34 million set-tops
worldwide. Its largest U.S. deployment is with Cablevision Systems
Corp.
