Network Provides Photographic Closeup
Ovation TV will put its lens on photography over an eight-day period, starting this Sunday.
Under the “Framed” banner, Ovation will celebrate photography as an art form, while presenting profiles on some of the world’s top practitioners and their works.
The stunt begins Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. with the world premiere of the original one-hour TV special Close Up: Photographers at Work. Produced for Ovation by Maysled Films, the special provides insight on how five great photographers take their acclaimed shots. Through interviews, the show aspires to afford insight into their processes.
The programming schedule also includes the U.S. premiere of the six-part series “The Genius of Photography,” an in-depth look at the history of photography and such icons as Louis Daguerre, Eadweard Muybridge, Man Ray, Dorothea Lange, Robert Capa, Stephen Shore, Ed Ruscha, Cindy Sherman, Larry Sultan, and Martin Parr.
Other special programs include the Ovation debuts of Portrait of a Photographer: David LaChapelle, Nobody’s Here but Me: Cindy Sherman, and the documentary on cinematography, Visions of Light.
Online, OvationTV.com is partnering with Fotolog.com and Samsung to invite viewers/users to submit their own personal photographs through Nov. 23 to Fotolog’s “Fotohunt” Web site for a chance to win prizes including six Samsung NV3 digital cameras and gift certificates from Aperture Foundation.
Select entries will also be televised on Ovation and featured on the net’s Web site and www.Fotolog.com, the world’s largest photo-blogging community with more than 12 million member accounts from 200 countries. Participation details can be found at www.OvationTV.com/framed.
