Nortel Makes Waves With DWDM
By Matt Stump
published Nortel Networks Inc. has unveiled new Common Photonic Layer technology, a new dense wave-division multiplexing platform designed for today’s converging networks that the company says takes DWDM to the next level of modularity and flexibility.
Nortel said CPL eliminates the need for the expensive circuitry found in today’s line systems. It also delivers automation and intelligence that can accelerate the activation of new services.
The company believes broadband operators can save 50% in footprint and power, 40% on system activation and up to 93% on network optimization.
