Pete Townshend Composes Original Song For FX's "The Americans"
The Who's guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend has composed "It Must Be Done," a new original song to be used in an upcoming episode of FX drama "The Americans." The song will be featured in an episode airing April 30, 2014 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The Who’s Townshend-penned song “Who Are You” notably serves as the theme song for "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," but “It Must Be Done” marks the first original song the musician has written for a television show.
Townshend collaborated on the track with Nathan Barr, the series’ two-time Emmy-nominated composer.
“I grew up listening to The Who and all of Pete’s amazing songs. And as a kid I could never have imagined that one day I would have the thrill of writing a song with him,” Barr said in a release.
The collaboration came about as a result of the relationships between "The Americans" Music Supervisor PJ Bloom and Spirit Music Group's President Mark Friend and Senior Vice President of Creative Services Peter Shane.
“When I signed my deal with Spirit I was hoping we could do stuff differently and working with Nate was extremely gratifying and artistically exciting,” Townshend said.
