Pioneer Exits Set-Top Field
By MCN Staff
published Pioneer Electronics Corp. will exit the cable set-top-box market, cable-division president Paul Dempsey said at the National Show, and it will concentrate its efforts on retail set-tops and its “Passport” guide product.
Pioneer has been a second-source supplier to Scientific-Atlanta Inc. systems, and it has several million set-tops in the field, many with Time Warner Cable. Dempsey said Pioneer will still maintain and service those set-tops that are already deployed.
It will also continue efforts to build retail products for one-way and, eventually, two-way set-tops, Dempsey said, as well as pushing Passport.
