Roku Does Windows (10)
Adding another platform to the mix, Roku has launched an app for Windows 10 laptops and tablets.
The app, the first from Roku for use on tablets, enables users to control their Roku streaming device and navigate the platform’s 3,000-plus channels in landscape mode.
“The Roku app for Windows 10 is a universal Windows app, which means it features Cortana support as well,” Matthew Wee, Roku’s senior product manager, noted in this blog post, referencing Microsoft’s voice-capable personal assistant.
The app also features a new homepage with access to the user’s “My Channels” list, a “Play on Roku” feature that supports photos and music for display and playback on the TV.
Roku’s app for Windows 10 is initially offered only in the U.S., but will be available internationally soon, Wee wrote.
Also this week, Roku announced that its universal search now supports more than 50 content sources, as well as a set of news-related features, including a News menu on the home screen, and a news search that outputs results from outlets such as ABC News, CBS News, Fox Business, Fox News, and NBC News.
