Sunrise Telecom has whipped up a cable network analyzer that provides spectrum analysis combined with DOCSIS 3.0 testing features, in one integrated, handheld device.
The CM3800 field spectrum analyzer spans the entire spectrum, up to 1 Gigahertz, to identify network impairments such as ingress that degrade video, voice and broadband data services. The instrument also validates the effectiveness of DOCSIS 3.0 services by testing up to eight bonded channels in the downstream and four in the upstream.
"This is a cable-modem tester, spectrum analyzer and signal-level meter all in one, that's really designed to let technicians do their job," Sunrise Telecom CEO Bahaa Moukadam said.
Moukadam said the CM3800 is a cost-effective solution -- it starts at less than $10,000, whereas a good spectrum analyzer by itself could be $15,000. "It's a huge savings in terms of capex," he said. The product is scheduled to be available before the end of the year.
The device has a color screen, Moukadam noted, and includes Wi-Fi wireless networking support to upload results wirelessly. The CM3800 includes a signature-capture pad to let a technician get a customer's signature electronically and provides a strand map showing the plant in the neighborhood.
In addition, Sunrise Telecom also announced enhancements to its AT2500 Spectrum Analyzer with automated digital proof-of-performance test capabilities, for assessing the quality of digital video services. The AT2500 can let techs troubleshoot issues that affect QAM-supported digital video offerings, with the ability to test all QAM channels to a pre-set threshold with the push of a single button.
