Showtime Has a Sex Change
Two upcoming Showtime Original Documentaries, both titled The Opposite Sex, will examine sex changes.
The two 90-minute films “explore the medical challenges, prejudices and controversies surrounding these individuals and the profound struggles they face as they publicly transition to the opposite sex,” the network said in a prepared statement.
The first will debut Monday, May 3 at 9 p.m. (EST/PST). The Opposite Sex: Rene's Story features a person who, despite being born a female, is convinced by age eight that "nature made a mistake." Beginning to take hormones as a child, Rene “passed” as a man for all of adulthood.
Then in June, The Opposite Sex: Jamie's Story focuses on a married man and father's male-to-female gender change.
Dr. Bruce Hensel, an Emmy Award-winning medical journalist for NBC's Los Angeles affiliate, and Emmy nominee Stuart Krasnow (Dog Eat Dog, The Weakest Link, The Ricki Lake Show) created and executive-produced the two The Opposite Sex documentaries.
