Showtime has given the go-ahead to a pair of dramas that will make their
debuts this summer.
Leap Years and Going to California have been green-lit for
production and have received 20-episode commitments, according to Showtime
Networks Inc. president of programming Jerry Offsay.
Created by Queer as Folk developers Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman,
Leap Years focuses on five sophisticated, multiethnic New Yorkers
struggling with relationships, love and careers.
The series -- starring Bruno Campos(The Last Don,
ResurrectionBoulevard), Garret Dillahunt (NYPD Blue), Nina
Garbiras (The Street, You Can Count on Me), David Julian Hirsh
(La Femme Nikita) and Michelle Hurd (Law & Order) -- will
examine their lives during three different periods: 1993, 2001 and 2008.
Over the course, the relationships change, but future episodes will fill in
the missing years and viewers will discover what caused the changes in the
characters' lives.
Leap Years will be produced by Temple Street Productions.
In Going to California, a pair of 20-something guys set out across the
country by car to search for a missing friend and themselves.
Sam Trammel (At the End of the Day, Autumn in New York) and
Brad Henke (Gone in 60 Seconds, The Thirteenth Floor) star as
Kevin Laughlin and Henry Ungalow, who leave their New England town to find their
best friend, whose breakup with his girlfriend led to his abandoning
everything.
Shot on location across the United States, the series follows this pursuit
and the often strange people they meet along the way.
The show is being produced by Industry Association with Columbia TriStar
Television Distribution. The executive producers are Scott Rosenberg (High
Fidelity, Gone in 60 Seconds), Jeff Melvoin (Early Edition,
Northern Exposure) and J. Geyer Kosinski (Stranger than the
Wheel).
