Sling Media has booted up AirPlay support for the SlingPlayer Mobile app for the iPhone and iPad, adding a feature that lets Apple TV users sling live TV to a another TV in the home via Wi-Fi without a separate set-top, or shuttle those video streams out of the home to a remotely located TV via the Internet.
The new feature is being offered on the Slingbox 500, Slingbox 350, Slingbox PRO-HD and Slingbox SOLO.
Sling Media has also launched Blockbuster On Demand, a premium over-the-top video service for the Slingbox 500 that lets customers view trailers and rent movies using a Blockbuster On Demand account. Sling Media corporate cousin Dish Network bought troubled video rental company Blockbuster in April 2007.
Slingbox 500 users also have access to enhanced My Media features that lets them access personal photos and videos stored on a USB drive attached to the device through the SlingPlayer client – initially on PCs and Macs, and “coming soon” on SlingPlayer for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones.
