Spike Has Alice Cooper Screaming Under Its Wheels

Spike TV wants people to scream around the globe.

Scream 2007, the network’s horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic book event, will be televised to some 130 countries and territories, including a U.S. premiere on the men’s-targeted channel on Oct. 23 from 10 p.m. to midnight (ET/PT).

Spike TV, which is taping the event Oct. 19 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, has struck licensing deals with such networks as Star Asia, TNT Latin America and VHI UK, to carry the program, highlighted by Alice Cooper receiving the second annual Spike TV Scream “Rock Immortal Award.”

“Scream is all about the incredibly devoted fans of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic books. We're bringing them everything they want to see and celebrating the brilliant creative talent behind the genres,” said Casey Patterson, senior vice president, event production for Spike TV and executive producer of Scream 2007, in a statement.  “We're thrilled, but not surprised at the global appetite for an event of this kind; these fans have driven box office to record numbers around the world."

In addition to feting Cooper, Avenged Sevenfold will perform its song Scream from their self-titled album, a monster all-star performance from the likes of Rob Zombie and Slash, plus a number from Ozzy Osbourne. “The Prince of Darkness” was last year’s Rock Immortal Award winner.

Spike TV and Comic-Con International have teamed up again to present modern comic, short story and novel writer, Neil Gaiman, with the Comic-Con Icon Award.

Moreover, awards will be bestowed in such categories as “The Ultimate Scream,” “Best Horror Movie,” “Best Comic Book,” “Fantasy Fox” and “Most Memorable Mutilation.” Voting at www.scream.spiketv.com continues through Oct. 19.

To keep track of the action backstage, spiketv.com will provide a Web cam offering of behind-the-scenes interviews with talent. The site will also feature exclusive video footage from the event’s Black Carpet..

The show, sponsored by Captain Morgan, Taco Bell, Honda, Rhapsody and Truth, will also feature appearances by Seth Rogen, Criss Angel, Christian Bale, Kristen Bell, Tobin Bell, Jessica Biel, Tim Burton, Rosario Dawson, Casper Van Dien, Ralph Fiennes, Harrison Ford, Megan Fox, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tommy Lee, Keith Richards, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino and Milo Ventimiglia, among others.
