Spike TV Acquires Rights To Rambo Catalog
Spike TV Tuesday announced it has acquired the rights to all four of Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo” movies including the latest–and possibly–final installment which was released earlier this year.
All four films were sold to Spike TV by Lionsgate, which produced and distributed the films along with The Weinstein Company. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“Rambo headlines a package of five action films that we are thrilled to deliver to Spike TV,” Rand Stoll, Lionsgate’s executive vice president, television sales, said in a statement. “Spike TV offers the perfect audience for Rambo, and the delivery of this package reflects our continued momentum in monetizing our slate of current theatrical releases and filmed entertainment library product through strong television sales.”
The network will have exclusive ad-supported cable television rights in staggered windows for 2008’s “Rambo” for four years, beginning in June 2010. Spike TV points out the film holds the record with the most kills out of the entire “Rambo” series, with 236 kills and an average of 2.59 “kills” per minute.
“Rambo: First Blood” will debut on Spike TV Saturday, May 24 at 9 p.m. ET. “Rambo: First Blood Part II” will air in January 2010 and “Rambo III” will launch on Spike TV in March 2011.
Spike TV, a division of MTV Networks, is available in 96.1 million households.
