STMicroelectronics introduced its “STB6000” single-chip silicon tuner Tuesday.
The chip is aimed at replacing complex discrete component tuners in set-top boxes used for receiving digital-TV or Web-based material via satellite.
The STB6000, developed in co-operation with RFMagic Inc., supports the Digital Video Broadcasting, DirecTV Inc. and VSAT (very small aperture terminal) protocols.
STMicroelectronics added that the STB6000 is currently available in production volumes, with U.S. pricing at $2 apiece.
