Tandberg Buys SkyStream for $80M
Tandberg Television bought IPTV-delivery company SkyStream Networks Inc. last week for $80 million.
The product line for SkyStream -- which generated $30.7 million in 2005 from 300 worldwide customers -- includes its “Mediaplex-20” and “iPlex” switched-digital-video headends for MPEG-2/MPEG-4 AVC encoding and transcoding.
Tandberg said it and SkyStream already share a number of common customers, with equipment often sitting side-by-side in telco and satellite networks.
SkyStream's media customers include GlobeCast (a division of France Telecom), EchoStar Communications Corp., Comcast Corp., Belgacom, Convergent Media Systems Corp., Eutelsat, Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd., ViaSat Inc., Loral Skynet, Rural Telephone, China Central Television and Telecom Italia S.p.A.
In the past 12 months, Tandberg has snapped up N2 Broadband Inc. and GoldPocket Interactive Inc.
