Tandberg Integrates with Microsoft TV
Tandberg Television’s “EN5920” encoder’s integration with Microsoft Corp.’s “Microsoft TV” Internet-protocol-TV platform is complete, the two companies said Friday.
The encoder and the platform now support Microsoft’s “Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile” codec, which enables broadband operators to offer live broadcast-television programming at lower data rates while maintaining broadcast-quality video.
The companies said this marks the first availability of real-time Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile hardware encoding designed to enable broadband-network operators to offer competitive IP-based digital-television services using the Microsoft TV IPTV platform.
“It allows operators to develop more effective and competitive solutions, permitting more channels to be transmitted in bandwidth-limited pipes and more customers to be reached in DSL [digital subscriber line] and DOCSIS [Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification] systems,” Tandberg director of strategic development Tim Sheppard said in a prepared statement.
“The end result is an exciting and enhanced TV experience for consumers,” he added.
