Tekelec, a provider of mobile data management solutions for wireless carriers, last week announced the acquisition of policy-management software provider Camiant for $130 million.
Camiant has 30 fixed and mobile broadband customers worldwide, including Comcast, Cox Communications, Verizon Communications, Vodafone and Sprint. Privately held Camiant, based in Marlborough, Mass., has more than 100 employees and was founded in 2003.
Also last week Tekelec, based in Morrisville, N.C., announced the acquisition of Blueslice Networks, a provider of subscriber data management, for $35 million in cash plus performance-based incentives.
With the two acquisitions, Tekelec is positioning itself as delivering management solutions designed for next-generation core networks as service providers evolve to all-IP architectures such as long-term evolution (LTE) and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS).
"Tekelec is now the only player in the industry with a portfolio solely focused on scaling the intelligence layer of all-IP networks," Tekelec president and CEO Frank Plastina said in a statement. "Camiant's and Blueslice's histories of innovation, market leadership, and software-centric business models enhance our ability to enable service providers to manage network complexity and enhance the user experience."
Susie Kim Riley, Camiant's founder and chief technology officer, said in a statement: "Tekelec's global reach, core network experience and trusted relationships with Tier 1 service providers make an ideal partnership to extend the power of policy control and create the foundation of the intelligent multi-service network."
