Telemundo Invests In News
Telemundo is ramping up its news-gathering processes across its platforms.
The NBC Universal-owned Spanish-language broadcast network is upping its investment at Telemumdo stations, developing a new multimedia strategy and launching a national public affairs program.
Moreover, Telemundo said that Jose Diaz-Balart will succeed Pedro Sevcec on nightly newscast Noticiero Telemundo. Sevcec's contract was not renewed, while Diaz-Balart, the host of various programs on the network, will lead its upcoming Sunday public affairs program, slated to bow in the first quarter next year.
Relative to local news, Telemundo's station group will create content centers intended to improve news coverage and provide multimedia news content to local stations. Telemundo also named Jose Marquez, architect of mun2 digital, to focus on the multimedia elements of Noticiero. In his new role as vice president of Interactive Strategy, Marquez has oversight for developing interactive content for the evening newscasts.
Speaking of the cable network, mun2 aims to strengthen its news content by investing in its Peabody Award-winning news specials. In 2010, mun2 will produce a one-hour news special on The New America, which will be an interactive event and multiplatform consumer experience.
