Time Warner Cable said it has hired Timothy J. Dodd as vice president of technology policy, to help in talks with consumer-electronics industry representatives toward interoperability agreements and in other areas.
He reports to senior vice president of strategy and development Kevin Leddy. “Tim's legal and negotiating expertise will make him an invaluable asset to Time Warner Cable as discussions proceed with the consumer electronics industry as well as with other business partners,” Leddy said in a statement.
Dodd will act as Time Warner Cable's negotiator at various industry trade-association meetings and hearings, including the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, Cable Television Laboratories Inc. and the Consumer Electronics Association.
Time Warner said he'll represent the MSO in various content-protection and digital rights-management deliberations and will monitor technology trends and issues.
Dodd had been senior associate in the New York office of the law firm Vinson & Elkins L.L.P., where he represented clients in a variety of infrastructure development, structured finance and private-equity transactions.
He also was an associate at the Washington, D.C., law firm Shaw Pittman, where he represented clients in connection with software licensing, technology transfer agreements and securities regulatory issues.
He also served as associate for Russell McVeagh, New Zealand's largest law firm, where he represented a U.S.-New Zealand joint venture in the acquisition of New Zealand's rail and related fiber-optic cable systems.
He was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and currently lives in Wilton, Conn., with his wife, Tania Saison-Dodd.
