Time Warner Cable Does Some Social Engineering
Time Warner Cable is offering subscribers one app to rule all their tweets, updates and other activities on multiple social networks.
The free Social One application integrates with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, YouTube, AOL’s AIM and other services, presenting the different social feeds in “magazine-style” layout.
Social One lets users share links, images and video from the Web with all of their social networks at the same time. In addition, users can preview and reply to email, wall posts and instant messages as well as share conversations across networks by dragging and dropping Web content.
The MSO developed the Social One app with San Francisco-based Yoono. The company, founded in 2006, is funded by French venture-capital firm AGF Private Equity. Terms of the agreement between Time Warner Cable and Yoono were not disclosed.
“With the broad spectrum of social media networks available today, it’s increasingly difficult for Internet users to keep up with their social presence online,” said Steve Cook, Time Warner Cable senior vice president and general manager of high-speed data. “Social One provides users a more enjoyable social media experience by keeping their activity organized and consolidated in one location.”
The application is available for Windows XP and Windows 7 PCs, Macs (with Mac OS 10.6 or higher) and as a Firefox add-on. Social One can be downloaded at: www.rr.com/socialone.
According to the application’s privacy policy, Yoono may share “non-personally identifiable information” such as extracted keyword data with third-party services to increase the relevance of the recommendations and advertisements. But Yoono said it does not provide any personally identifiable information to these third-party ad servers or ad networks without a user’s consent.
