Time Warner Extends Univision Pact
Expanding its Latino-programming reach, Time Warner Cable has extended its deal with Univision Communications Inc. -- a pact that will ramp up its carriage of cable network Galavisión and the Spanish-language media giant's second broadcast service, TeleFutura Network.
Under the multiyear pact, terms of which were not disclosed, Time Warner Cable will add not only add Galavisión and TeleFutura to an additional 4 million homes, but keep Univision, the nation's leading Spanish-language network, in front of subscribers throughout the MSO's footprint, including its Los Angeles, New York, Houston, San Antonio and San Diego divisions.
As part of the agreement, Galavisión will pick up some 2.5 million homes, including rollouts on its systems in Waco, Texas; Rochester, N.Y.; Milwaukee; Raleigh and Greensboro, N.C.; northeast and western Ohio; and Nebraska.
TeleFutura, meanwhile, will be launched in Corpus Christi, Harlingen and Laredo, Texas; San Diego and Palm Springs, Calif.; Raleigh, N.C.; and the MSO’s Philadelphia division.
All told, TeleFutura will gain around 1.5 million Time Warner subscribers.
"Time Warner Cable strives to provide a diverse array of programming options to meet the extensive interests and needs of our customers," senior vice president of programming Lynne Costantini said in a prepared statement. "With Univision Networks' extremely popular programming now available to Time Warner Cable, we can deliver even greater value and programming choice to our growing Hispanic consumer base."
"We are thrilled to offer the unparalleled programming of Univision Networks to an even greater Hispanic audience through this partnership with Time Warner Cable," Univision executive VP of affiliate relations Tim Krass said in a prepared statement. "We applaud Time Warner for recognizing the importance of Spanish-language television and Univision Networks' unparalleled ability to reach the ever-growing Hispanic community."
