Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey has become the first "platinum sponsor" of the New York chapter of Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry’s national nonprofit AIDS-action organization.
Time Warner Cable is the primary benefactor for the New York chapter’s fund-raising efforts, which will continue with a musical and comedy show at The Cutting Room in New York Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
"Time Warner Cable is proud to become the first platinum sponsor of Cable Positive’s New York chapter. We are wholeheartedly committed to helping raise awareness of the AIDS crisis in New York City and strengthen the organization’s resources," said Barry Rosenblum, president of Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey.
Rosenblum, who is also serving as the chapter’s honorary chairman, added, "Cable Positive works diligently to distribute life-saving information, funding and assistance. I’m grateful to be named honorary chair and to be associated with this respected organization."
A spokesman for the New York chapter said Time Warner "met our fund-raising goal," without disclosing the amount. He noted that Manhattan-based AIDS Service Center of New York will be "the primary beneficiary of Time Warner’s generosity."
A writing program that has lifted the spirits of some HIV-positive people who visit the center will also be front and center in the documentary My Life in Verse
.
There will be a 20-minute screening, co-sponsored by Cable Positive’s New York chapter and the National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in Communications, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Cablevision's Clearview Chelsea Cinema, located 260 West 23rd St. between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. The documentary will subsequently air on Showtime.
