TNT Takes April Ratings Crown
TNT and TBS were big ratings winners during the month of April, according to Nielsen.
TNT rode its NBA regular season and post season coverage to finish as the most-watched basic cable network in April, averaging 2.05 million viewers, up 1% from April 2013, said network officials. USA Network finished second with 2.04 million viewers, down 23% for the prior year, while TBS pulled into third with 1.94 million, an increase of 5% from the same period last year.
History finished fourth with 1.88 million, a drop of 9% from April 2013, followed by Disney Channel (1.87 million, down 23%); Fox News (1.67 million, down 20%); ESPN (1.5 million, down 4%); HGTV (1.23 million, down 2%); Discovery (1.21, down 9%) and Nick at Nite (1.20 million, down 15%).
Nickelodeon topped all cable networks on a 24-hour basis, garnering 1.63 million viewers, although the network’s monthly audience dropped 3% from April 2013. Disney Channel finished second with 1.33 million, down 19% from the same period last year.
TBS was the most popular network among adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and 25-54, said network officials.
