Tribune Media said it has reached a "comprehensive" retransmission consent agreement with Charter Communications, ending an impasse that began on Jan. 2.
About 33 stations in 24 Charter markets encompassing 6 million homes went dark on Jan. 2 at 5 p.m., a day after Tribune had granted a brief extension to try to work out a deal.
Charter had claimed Tribune was demanding rates that were more than double what had paid in the past. Tribune stressed it was seeking fair compensation for its content. Along the way, they reached a compromise apparently both can live with.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are pleased to have reached this agreement that will return Tribune Broadcasting’s local television stations and WGN America to Spectrum customers and Tribune’s viewers,” Charter and Tribune said in a joint statement.
