TVN Aids Local Sports VOD in Southeast

TVN Entertainment Corp. said it will provide video-on-demand support for Comcast Sports Southeast/Charter Sports Southeast’s 60-game college-football package this fall.

The vendor said it will supply encoding, asset management, site-specific metadata and multicast transport using its "TVNow" rapid-turnaround service.

The MSOs will carry games from the University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, University of Georgia and Auburn University.

"The TVNow rapid-turnaround service allows us to have timely showings of these college-football games via our on-demand platform, which, until recently, may not have been possible," said Mike Sheehey, vice president and general manager of Comcast Sports Southeast, in a prepared statement.

In other VOD news, MidStream Technologies Inc. said it has successfully tested an nDVR (network digital-video-recorder) solution with storage company DataDirect Networks.

Using MidStream's "MVS-2000" video server and DataDirect's fiber channel-storage controller and disk array, the companies said they could handle ingest from 75 channels totaling 35,000 hours of content.
