Univision to Launch UVideos Digital Network
In an effort to boost digital presence and commit to its TV
Everywhere entry, Univision this summer will launch UVideos, a digital network
that features content from Univision's entire portfolio of networks.
The site, currently in beta, has a Hulu type of look and
feel and while it features many of the videos already found on Univision.com. It
comes with an important addition: Content by programming partner and part owner
Grupo Televisa of Mexico.
UVideos will allow Univision to offer advertisers the chance
"to reach Hispanics on a centralized partner," CEO Randy Falco told reporters
during a pre-upfront press call May 11.
Launching in the summer UVideos will allow viewers to access
content from different platforms, including tablets and smartphones. It will
offer some content for free, but will require some type of authentication for
other content.
While digital is rapidly growing among U.S. Hispanics, Falco
says 94 percent of Univision viewers currently watch programming live,
something that has fallen dramatically among mainstream networks.
