USA Network is developing a remake of The Bionic Woman, the mid-1970s
action-drama series inspired by another hit from that era, The Six Million
Dollar Man.
Already on a series hit roll this summer with The Dead Zone and
Monk, USA officials are hopeful that their Woman take will join
the fold by mid-2003 and, like Monk, get a second-window deal with a
broadcast network.
Team Todd has been assigned as project producers.
Lindsay Wagner played The Bionic Woman in its 1976-through-1978 run as
Jaime Sommers, ex-fiancée of Six Million Dollar Man character Steve
Austin. Her character is critically injured in a skydiving accident and becomes
a cyborg with superhuman powers.
ABC premiered Woman in midseason, with NBC rescuing the show from
cancellation in the fall of 1977. Wagner won an Emmy Award that year for
outstanding drama-series actress.
