In a sign that Southern Californians cannot live without their Lakers, Verizon Communications’ FiOS TV and DirecTV have added Time Warner Cable Deportes and Time Warner Cable SportsNet.
The Spanish- and English-language channels are the local TV homes of the National Basketball Association’s Lakers, Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy and the Women’s National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Sparks.
TWC Deportes is now available on FiOS TV in Southern California on channel 79 in standard definition, according to Time Warner Cable. In the future, programming will also be made available to FiOS TV customers online, on mobile devices and on smartphones and tablets.
Satellite-TV provider DirecTV inked its deal with TWC Deportes and TWC SportsNet on Nov. 15.
FiOS just one of a string of cable and telco distributors that have brokered a deal with Time Warner Cable to carry the Lakers-loaded package. Others include Charter Communications, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-verse and Bright House Networks.
Time Warner Cable Deportes programming includes the Lakers en Vivo pregame show and Somos Lakers post-game show, as well as Somos Lakers éné-bé-a, a weekly show dedicated to the latest on the Lakers and the NBA.
Other shows include dailies Encuentro Deportivo and Tu Show del Fútbol.
