VH1 Classic Hails Helm with Friday Night Encore of 'The Last Waltz'
By MCN Staff
published VH1 Classic will celebrate the music and memory of Levon Helm, the drummer of the Band and rough-voiced solo artist by airing The Last Waltz. Helm died on April 19 following complications from a long bout with cancer.
The seminal concert film, directed by Martin Scorsese, who also conducts interviews with members of The Band, chronicled the group's final concert at the Winterland in San Francisco on Thanksgiving night 1976.
The network will encore The Last Waltz, which also featured performances from music legends Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, whom the group famously backed up, on Friday, April 20 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).
