‘VH1 Rock Honors’ Celebrates The Who
A “Who’s Who” list of top-selling rock groups will pay homage to the legendary British rock group The Who as part of VH1’s VH1 Rock Honors event scheduled for broadcast Thursday, July 17 at 9 p.m., network officials said.
Grammy-nominated alternative rock band Incubus and the comedy-rock duo Tenacious D featuring Jack Black and Kyle Gass will join Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and The Flaming Lips on stage at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.
VH1 officials said because of The Who’s “revolutionary and era-defining influence on rock music,” it will be the first VH1 Rock Honors that salutes just one band.
VH1.com will also offer select performances from the show leading up to and following the on-air premiere at Rock.VH1.com. The Who's “monumental legacy will be celebrated with a 2-hour tribute that will salute the music and the lasting impact of this groundbreaking band,” VH1 officials said.
Rainn Wilson of NBC’s The Office is scheduled to appear along with other performers and celebrities who will be announced closer to the event’s July 12 taping.
VH1 Rock Honors: The Who will be directed by David Mallet and executive produced by Greg Sills, Lee Rolontz and Rick Krim. Paul Flattery and Patrizia DiMaria serve as producers with David Wild and Kelly Brock as co-producers.
The Who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
