Vizio Tunes In M-GO

M-GO, the over-the-top video joint venture between DreamWorks Animation and Technology, has launched an app for Vizio Smart TVs and the CE maker’s $99.99 Co-Star streaming player, which runs the Google TV platform.

Both Vizio products also feature an M-GO button at the top of the remote, giving users one-click access to the service.  Those remotes also feature Netflix and Amazon buttons.

M-GO, launched earlier this year, offers a library of movies and TV shows that can be rented or purchased in standard- and high-definition format. Rentals and purchases range in price, but M-GO is currently running a promo that offers new users unlimited SD movies for 99 cents or HD movies for $1.99 for the first month.

“Making access to the movies and TV shows people care about easier is M-GO’s mission,” said John Batter, CEO of M-GO, in a statement. “Going live on millions of VIZIO smart TVs and streaming boxes is a huge milestone in giving consumers the power to enjoy an entire world of entertainment at their fingertips.”

M-GO, a competitor to services such as Vudu and Apple iTunes, also runs on iPads (via the Safari browser),  Android devices, Samsung Smart TVs (2012 and 2013 models), and on major PC Web browsers. Vizio’s $99.99 Co-Star media player also supports Google TV.

But M-GO plays goes out of its way to play nice with its competitors. Even when M-GO offers a particular title, its Digital Directory also points out if it’s available via other OTT services,  including  Amazon.com, Hulu, iTunes, Netflix and Vudu.

M-GO also supports UltraViolet, the digital rights authentication system that counts Comcast and major studios among its backers.

Similar to a personalization recently rolled out by Netflix, M-GO lets create up to six individual profiles, a feature M-GO has offered since the launch of its public beta in Janaury.
