WB Content Leaps to ‘V CAST’
Video clips from several popular “Frog Network” shows will be making the leap to mobile phones thanks to a new deal struck between The WB Television Network and Verizon Wireless.
Under the deal, scenes and trailers from shows including Everwood, Gilmore Girls, Smallville and Supernatural will be offered on Verizon Wireless’ “V CAST” video service the day before the shows air.
"When people leave their house in the morning, they grab their keys, their wallet or purse and their mobile phones. What better way to deliver Warner Bros. content than through the one device they take with them everywhere?" said Jim Noonan, senior vice president and general manager of Warner Bros. Online, in a release.
Working with Verizon Wireless’ high-speed V CAST content service “enables us to offer our audience programming that is entertaining and relevant wherever they go," he added.
That isn’t the only content addition coming from the Warner Bros camp. Original Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera shorts have also been added to the V CAST service, including classics Bugs Bunny, Tweety, The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Scooby-Doo.
Warner Bros is also supplying video trailers for new motion-picture releases from Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Independent Pictures and Warner Home Video.
Tapping Verizon Wireless’ “Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO)” network, V CAST allows customers in 172 major markets to download and view video and other multimedia using connections averaging between 400 kilobits per second and 700 kbps.
