Western Channel Salutes 'Tonto'
We all know about "Black History Month" and "Hispanic Heritage Month." Now, Starz Encore Group LLC's Westerns is looking to raise the profile of National American Indian Heritage Month -- November.
The network announced Tuesday that it will salute Jay Silverheels with The Lone Ranger series and some movies included in its daylong "Six-Gun Salute" marathon of programming scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Nov. 30.
Besides five episodes of The Lone Ranger, starring Clayton Moore, Westerns will offer such Silverheels movie credits as Brave Warrior, The Pathfinder, Last of the Comanches and The Nebraskan.
Silverheels -- a onetime boxer and lacrosse player before becoming a movie stuntman -- was born on a Canadian reservation to a Mohawk chief, the Westerns announcement pointed out.
