YES Set for ‘Yogi and a Movie’
Giving yet another meaning to the phrase, “It’s déjà vu all over again,” New York Yankees legend and baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra will serve as one of the hosts of a series of sports movies.
Beginning Oct. 27 at 8 p.m., Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network will present “Yogi and a Movie,” featuring Berra introducing 1976’s The Bad News Bears.
Berra, along with YES studio host Bob Lorenz, will discuss various segments of the film during breaks and related relevant stories, along with, no doubt, humorous anecdotes from his days on the diamond as player and manager. Lorenz and Berra will preside over the proceedings from the theater at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Little Falls, N.J.
Among the other films that will air under the Yogi and a Movie umbrella: The Natural, A League of Their Own, Bang the Drum Slowly, The Jackie Robinson Story, Jim Thorpe: All American, The Babe, The Joe Louis Story, The Bad News Bears Go to Japan, Paradise Alley and Major League: Back to the Minors.
“Yogi is one of the best-known and most-beloved sports icons of our generation, and his unique, offbeat take on these films will be a treat to YES viewers,” YES president of production and programming John Filippelli said in a prepared statement.
YES officials said Yogi and a Movie will not be Berra’s first turn at bat with film criticism: He had reviewed movies for a syndicated TV show in the 1980s.
