The FCC's C-Band spectrum auction could be moving toward its close, at least of the initial bidding on spectrum blocks--there will be a follow-on auction of specific frequencies for the winners.

After a flurry of early activity drove the gross proceeds total to record territory since the C-Band spectrum auction launch Dec. 8, the post-holiday bidding has progressively slowed.

Surpasses AWS-3 as biggest auction in terms of gross proceeds

The FCC's C-Band auction has blown by initial low-end estimates of the value of the spectrum as the FCC prepares for a Christmas week break.

While it took more than a week for the FCC's C-Band auction to top $10 billion in gross proceeds Dec. 16, it took it only until the last round a day later to top $20 billion.

The FCC is moving to five shorter rounds for its C-Band auction, which has been drawing lots of dollars for 5G spectrum.
