Sony-owned niche SVOD touts new website, broader editorial coverage and new features for its news platform

AT&T moves further away from the video biz with divestment of thriving anime-focused niche SVOD service

Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina have made a deal with Crunchyroll to develop an animated sci-fi thriller with the working title Dantai.

AT&T, looking to get out from under a mountain of debt, said it agreed to sell its Crunchyroll anime business for $1.175 billion to Sony’s Funimation Global Group.

The SVOD service may be on the block as debt-strapped AT&T ransacks its larder for salable assets. But that uncertainty isn’t keeping the venerable anime-focused streaming service from rolling out new initiatives

AT&T’s Cartoon Network and Crunchyroll units said they are teaming up to return the anime block Toonami to Latin America starting Aug. 31.

Adult Swin said it is teaming up with AT&T sister company Crunchyroll to produce an original anime series Fena: Pirate Princess.

Crunchyroll, AT&T’s anime streaming brand, is rolling out its first full slate of original series.
